Diggs Duke's Latest Will Have You Falling In 'Love'

Newcomer Diggs Duke's quest to dominate playlists the world over continues on with his latest, a take on Thundercat's "Is It Love?" On his version, Duke takes the original in a new direction, injecting hints of both jazz and classical music into it. Considering the fact that this was easily one of my faves on last year's The Golden Age of the Apocalypse, the margin of possible error could have been great. However, Duke more than does it justice, adding a depth to it thanks to the layered, raspy vocals that often permeate his work. Whereas the bass reigned supreme on Thundercat's version, Duke's interpretation ups the ante, offering up a heavy dose strings and piano. From violinist Vaughn Octavia's opening strings to the gentle horns, it's evident that it is nothing like original. Trying to pick one version over the other is definitely an exercise in futility, since both bring something more than a little worthwhile to the table. Available for free download via his Bandcamp page, Diggs Duke is sure to make a few new fans thanks to this one.
