AFROPUNK Fest Returns To Blow You Away

Due to some unforeseen circumstances (namely a surly broad named Irene), the good times that could've been had at last year's AFROPUNK Fest never came to be. Luckily, Hurricane Irene didn't end the fun forever, and the festivities for this year's AFROPUNK are sure to blow you away. Though they weren't able to re-secure the magic of last year's star-studded line-up, they've still done very good for themselves. Erykah Badu and The Cannabinoids, Janelle Monáe, Toro y Moi, Body Language and the ever Bounce-Worthy Phony Ppl will be in the house along with a host of other artists who represent the AFROPUNK philosophy. Even better, it appears that the headliners will be playing both days of the two-day event, meaning that music lovers don't have to choose which day they'll go in order to catch their faves.

In addition, AFROPUNK has also launched its Battle of the Bands contest. From now through July 14th, bands can enter the contest by creating a band profile at AFROPUNK.com and following them on Facebook and Twitter and then submitting an entry form via Facebook. From there, fans will vote for their favorites, with the top 16 going on to compete in a live battle from July 23rd to August 4th. The official winner(s) will then perform live at this year's AFROPUNK Fest. If you're a hopeful band or just a music lover looking forward to this year's free event, keep your eyes glued to the festival's website and be sure to make your way to Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park August 25th-26th.
