Are John Legend & Pusha T Offering The 'Best You Ever Had'?

In anticipation of his upcoming album, John Legend takes a break from moonlighting on ABC's Duets and attempts to contribute something meaningful to the soul landscape. I'm typically not found of tracks where the subject matter consists solely of a man bragging about his sexual prowess. If it's not done well it always comes across as incredibly cheesy. Well, the remix for "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)" falls right into that tub of fondue for me. The synth-heavy introduction is laced with random sound effects that scream My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the same affect on a "freak me baby" track as it did on "So Appalled," for instance. And what would the best night you've ever handed out be without a G.O.O.D. family member hiding in the closet ready to drop a verse? Replacing Ludacris who rapped on the original, Pusha T's 16, while forgettable by his standards, makes me thank God that we didn't get a Big Sean feature instead. Stick to rhyming about cocaine, Push. That's what you do best and that's what the kids wanna hear. John Legend's Love in the Future is due out later this year. Lets hope that this track isn't the best he has in store for us. We already know what his best looks like, and it's not anything worth bragging about.
