'Name Check' Up On Melanie Fiona

Melanie Fiona sat down yesterday with Michael Riedel of the New York Post for the newspaper's Name Check video interview series. The interview starts pretty paint-by-numbers with Melanie fielding questions about her influences, how she got her start, who she's worked with, et cetera, et cetera. Then about halfway through there's a celebrity news break with Ian Mohr from Page Six who shares some gossip about the latest Rihanna and Chris Brown nonsense and Melanie reluctantly chimes in but keeps in classy and very general with her response when asked by Riedel to comment. She also talks about living in NYC, what it was like growing up in Toronto, going to Caribana but having never participated in any mas bands and that she would love to be a judge on American Idol or some other vocal competition show. Hmmm, if this singing thing doesn't work out that might be a good plan B. I love that Mel is totally laid back in this interview and isn't all glammed up and doing too much. She's totally easy-going and real, which is what makes her so likable in the first place.
