K'NAAN Speaks On 'Country, God Or The Girl'

Every four years athletes from around the globe gather to celebrate the world's favorite sport, soccer football. This is also around the time when Americans quickly jump on the soccer bandwagon only to fall off the train in time for the American football season. Well the 2010 FIFA World Cup tourney introduced K'NAAN's "Wavin' Flag" to an enormous audience, but the excitement associated with the artist fizzled away along with soccer's mass appeal soon after the end of the competition. Well those of us devoted K'NAAN supporters who were left anxiously awaiting his return must wait no longer as the Somalia-born, Canada-based performer is back with his first full-length project since 2009's Troubadour. The new LP Country, God or the Girl, a title said to address K'NAAN's desire to touch on internal conflicts as opposed to the external conflicts focused on in his previous albums, features guest appearances from will.i.am, Keith Richards and Bono among others. The star power displayed on this album is proof that his appearance on the global stage was not completely taken in vain. A mini-documentary released in tandem with the new album features K'NAAN explaining his background and influences as well as the impact of his most popular song to date, the aforementioned "Wavin' Flag." The visual does a fantastic job of showcasing a humble man intensely focused on improving his craft.
