'Finally' Some Real R&B Courtesy Of Faye B

While good ol' soul music is undergoing a major revival, and jazz continues to reach a wider audience thanks to a select few who are pushing the boundaries and getting rid of its "stuffy" image, R&B seems to have stagnated. Sure, there are multiple "hot" singles released on a weekly basis that bill themselves as R&B, but not as we once knew it. Step forward Swiss singer Faye B and her new single, "Finally." Complete with thumping bassline and a guest rap from Pyrelli, this track harkens back to the late-'90s/early-'00s R&B that we all loved and are now largely mourning. Faye's voice is sweet and soulful, and she also has quite a range which makes up for whatever she lacks in raw power. I'm also a sucker for appropriate use of the talkbox, and this track gets it just right. The single will be released as an EP alongside a host of remixes, one of which comes from those purveyors of '80s-inspired soul gems, Cool Million, who give the track a soulful two-step makeover. The video is in no way groundbreaking, but it's a pleasant enough affair that suits the track well.
