Modlee & Vlooper Pick Up Erykah Badu's 'Bag Lady'

I was quite enamored with Canadian beat guru Vlooper and vocalist Modlee's Sunwalk EP. It was quite the melodic trek, and I didn't want it to end. Thankfully, a new path to take from the duo is Snowloops, a 16-track set that is chock-fullwith hypnotic experimental moods and grooves, including their latest single "Little Queen." While the detached and icy instrumentals are engaging, the husband and wife duo really come together when they give one of my all-time favorite Erykah Badu songs, the classic "Bag Lady," a new coat of abstract paint. It was evident of the love thang the two have for Badu as on Sunwalk the delicious "Doo" was under a spell of Badu-izm, and their re-imaging of "Bag Lady" is in the same honoring spirit. With vocals smooth enough to spread on a cracker, Modlee charms, and finds herself at times, seriously channeling Badu's vocality down to each vibrato, yet this is "Bag Lady" like you've never heard it, and a change of pace it is. "Bag Lady" is nestled into Snowloops, which you can purchase by on "pay what you want" basis over at Vlooper's Bandcamp. [H/T: BLS]
