You Might Learn A Few Things From Raheem DeVaughn's 'Heemy Taught Me 2'

The road to Raheem's DeVaughn's fourth studio album, A Place Called Loveland, is turning out to be a long and endless one littered with numerous promises and mixtapes. Nothing against his mixtapes, because something is better than nothing I suppose, but there's an APB out for some new-new from Mr. DeVaughn. He has assured us that new hotness is on the way, but in the interim he's revisiting some of his old hotness on the second edition of his steamy slow jam series with Heemy Taught Me 2. Raheem broke us off with Heemy Taught Me in April 2011 where he combined previously released slow bangers from his first three albums alongside covers, beatjacks and unreleased tracks, and he reprises the concept on this excellent follow up. I was leery at first at yet another mixtape, but this one really works. DeVaughn sets the mood for loving his lady down with familiar tracks like "Ask Yourself," "You" and "Love Drug;" flips the script on tracks such as Keri Hilson's "Slow Dance" on "Slow Love" and Wale and Miguel's "Lotus Flower Bomb;" owns Trey Songz's "Love Faces" and sprinkles some newish songs throughout such as "Rejoice," "Joy" and "Lay Awhile." While A Place Called Loveland still has no firm release date, the sexy, soothing sounds of Heemy Taught Me 2 are enough to distract fans from the wait.
