Take A Look At Phony Ppl's 'Statues'

One of my favorite musical discoveries this year was upstart hip-hop/R&B collective Phony Ppl. Last year alone, the group gave us two solid LPs, Phonyland and nothinG Special, opened for rapper Theophilus London and played the AfroPunk Festival. They even had the chance to open for The Legendary Roots Crew at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD this past New Year's Eve. So you can see why I'm a bit excited to see what the Phony fellas will be bringing our way in the next 12 months. While we wait with bated breath, we can peep their latest output: the new video for their track "Statues." The clip, which is essentially a day (or days) in the life of the Phonies, takes us behind the scenes as the guys hang out around their Brooklyn neighborhood, make music, hit the road and rock stages across the country. With their catching the ears of tastemakers and a growing list of high-profile friends, it looks like Phony Ppl could soon break into the big leagues. Until then, check out the clip for "Statues" below and, as an added bonus, some footage of their opening set for The Roots' NYE show after the bounce.
