Miguel Tests Out A New Sound On 'SNL'

Fresh off dropping his hot remix for "How Many Drinks?" last Thursday, R&B crooner Miguel took the Saturday Night Live stage for the first time over the weekend. Performing "Adorn" and "How Many Drinks?," the crooner and his band (which includes producer J* DaVeY's Brook D'Leau) decided to throw the audience for a loop with revamped versions of the now well-known songs. "Adorn" stayed a little closer to its roots, though it shed its Marvin Gaye-like original groove for something a little closer to Prince. While the switch up didn't do the song much justice, it was still interesting to hear the song take on a different flavor. The biggest departure, however, was "How Many Drinks?" Instead of the smooth soul sample of the original or the hip-hop flavored beat of the remix, he transformed the track into an odd, drunk and mumbly affair that then switches to a power punk free for all and then goes back again. While interesting to watch, I'm not exactly sure I would've chosen my SNL debut to switch my style up so drastically. Still, more power to him. If you missed the performances over the weekend, check out his rework of "Adorn" below and the reimagining of "How Many Drinks?" after the bounce.
