We Like The Way Alice Jemima Works Blackstreet's 'No Diggity'

If you've seen the musical comedy Pitch Perfect with best-friend-in-my-head Rebel Wilson, you can recall that a completely random sing-a-long to Blackstreet's 1996 GRAMMY-winning hit "No Diggity" took place. For me. it was one of the film's many highlights, as it came out of nowhere and made me realize that an R&B staple from my youth could be quite versatile when it's well-executed. Once again, I'm reminded of the song's flexibility as UK newcomer Alice Jemima takes the track to a jazzier state of mind, coating it with plusher, pillow-like vocals and subtle brooding instrumentation. I admit at first I wasn't so forthcoming. "No Diggity" toned down and without Dr. Dre's verses? That's just tampering with my childhood right there. But after a few listens, I warmed up to Ms. Jemima's lighter take and quite like how she, um, works it.
