Um, how come nobody told me Kid Cudi was now an alt-rocker? If that's the case, let me crack open a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon and throw on a plaid button up. I know he's known for his trippy contributions to hip-hop, but his new song "Going to the Ceremony" is...interesting. Actually, the production is mellow and thoroughly enjoyable, perfect for a head-clearing jog, the aural version of swimming through emotions. Cudi's earnestness while delivering the lyric is what's throwing me off, though -- it feels like he's doing an impersonation of the soulful, lone ranger emo guy in a romantic comedy. Maybe I'm being too hard on the Cudster. Take a listen and let me know what you think.
