Myele Manzanza is probably best known as the drummer for Kiwi soul outfit Electric Wire Hustle but, as we told you when we brought you his debut solo single, he has decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career, the first fruits of which can be heard on ONE, his debut album. The LP boasts an impressive line-up of guests including former EWH bandmate Mara TK, vocalists Ladi6, Rachel Fraser and Bella Kalolo, Mark de Clive-Lowe and even Myele's father, Sam Manzanza. The album arose after Myele found himself being "pigeon-holed as 'just a drummer'," so he set himself a challenge to write, compose and create a fully-formed album that would allow him to broaden his own "musical identity." Fans of the aforementioned EWH will find a lot to like here, with ONE's heavy hip-hop and soul leanings, but Myele also showcases his knowledge and appreciation of jazz and New Zealand roots music across the 11 tracks.
