Lady Gaga & R. Kelly Once Again 'Do What' They 'Want' At The 2013 American Music Awards

R. Kelly may be the perpetual creepy uncle of R&B and Lady Gaga a pretentious annoyance, but I don't care. I think "Do What U Want" is one of the best pop songs to come out this year, and I've been a little more than happy that this odd couple have been taking to the stage with it as of recent. They whipped the track out again at last night's 2013 American Music Awards and got in character for it as Kells played "the President" and Gaga played "Marilyn Monroe" and since this past weekend was the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination, I guess we're going for tribute here? Or if that is too Baby Boomerish for you new schoolers, then you can look at this performance as well, Scandal set to music (just minus the trembling lip pout and class of Kerry Washington). In a way, they sorta kinda toned things down from that blistering awkward SNL performance from last week, as Gaga even takes time out to wail a few final verses astride a piano, proving that as much art performance stunt work she puts in, it's really unnecessary because she can actually carry a tune when she wants to. All in all, pop music became slightly fun again with the naughty Oval Office antics and fleeting bites of synchronized dancing, and for once this is some water and oil that do in fact mix.
