You Might Need A 'Drink' After Justin Timberlake's 2013 American Music Awards Performance

Doing his best Taylor Swift shock face, Justin Timberlake was able to snag a pile of awards, including favorite Pop/Rock singer and R&B/Soul singer at the same damn time, at last night's 2013 American Music Awards, and in a pinch, he was deserving of a few. But really, I'm giving him a special award for being the artist who has released possibly the worst singles off of any album this year. I'm saying this because Timberlake also hopped on stage and strapped on a guitar to perform "Drink You Away" from the second installment of his comeback 20/20 Experience project. Just like the album as a whole had a serious case of cataracts, "Drink You Away" is also murky in its focus, as it plays like the drunken bar anthem that it is. Timberlake boasting about alcohol like a freshman frat boy doesn't get cool points with me, but I will say that he usually can make the best of a bad song situation. With his Tennessee Kids brood for back-up, Timberlake does indeed entertain and brings a little southern fried instrumentation back into the mainstream fold, and well, I can at least raise a glass to that.
