Kelis Bids An Emotional 'Farewell'

Kelis Red Dress

Kelis has been dropping gems from her upcoming F.O.O.D. left and right, and here's yet another one from Ms. Rogers. This time, instead of the brash soul of "Jerk Ribs" and "Rumble," she serves up a tender, heartfelt ballad for us with "Farewell." I'll warn you now, though, if you happen to be in some feelings, don't press play just yet. That's because Kelis is tapping into some rather deep emotions on this cut, backed by only a rueful piano and quiet strings. "So this is what it feels like with no pride left in the air/I'd never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad I didn't win," she starts before she bids farewell to all the possibilities she's lost,  ultimately singing, "Farewell to the woman I know I should've been." While definitely a song of loss and regret, there's also a sense of strength here, with the listener feeling that Kelis will find new outcomes in the aftermath. So far, F.O.O.D. is shaping up to be possibly Kelis' best effort to date. We'll see for sure when it arrives on April 22nd.
