Make 'Friends' With Meshell Ndegeocello's Whodini Cover

A lot has changed between 1984 and now -- including both hip hop and how we look at friends, especially in this digital age. With that in mind, Meshell Ndegeocello takes on Whodini's 1984 classic "Friends." It's an interesting choice to cover a hip-hop number and utilize a band to take the classically '80s hip-hop sound and bring it to a whole other level, but it's one that works. Meshell's reworking shifts "Friends" into modern times, giving it quite an ominous feeling while keeping you intrigued as to where it will go, thanks to the vocal effects on Meshell's rapping and subtle touches such as the drum parts and the guitar line. Truthfully though, anything Meshell touches sounds divine to me, and if you are anything like me then I'm sure you'll be happy come June when her new album Comet, Come to Me is released.
