After having over-eager high expectations, I found myself not at all jazzed about the Neneh Cherry and Robyn collaboration on Cherry's comeback record, Blank Project. There is some consolation as the visual for "Out Of the Black" is nothing short of vibrant and fits the lo-fi number well as it indulges heavily in glitchy and seedy VHS quality. In a way the Dario Vigorito-directed visual, recalls the budget struggle that was Cherry's iconic "Buffalo Stance" video from 1989, but even back then it was much more riveting than this. Even so, I still appreciate these two coloring outside the lines together. I just hope that the next time they do decide to join forces that I'm not reaching for the bottle of Aleve.
