'Rise Up' With Low Leaf

After getting caught up in the rapturous serenity of her King Britt collabo "A Light Within," Low Leaf is back casting more aural spells. With the upcoming Fresh Selects release, AKASHAALAY, arriving April 29th, Low Leaf is wasting zero time getting us acquainted with what's in store as she drops the project's official first single, "Rise Up." Low Leaf is clearly adopting the surrealistic moods of Erykah Badu and Bjork on "Rise Up," but her execution and the rebel yell message laced in song is clearly coming from personal passion, as she explains the track is a "vibratory message of restoration and empowerment to the collective Filipino psyche. In an effort to decolonize, cleanse, and heal the wounds of history & recent natural disasters -- the time is ripe now, more than ever, for the Filipino spirit to be reborn in full form." And well, from the sound of this trip-hop-jazz stunner, her message rings loud and clear.
