Bounce-Worthy: Estère

New frontiers in soul and R&B are always being explored and New Zealander Estère is one such explorer who has discovered a new and wild aural plateau. Coined by Estère herself, "Electric Blue Witch Hop" (great name!) is the type of vibe the singer/songwriter has adhered herself to or rather crafted on her own. Her approach to creating this one-of-a-kind sound is pretty much an "anything goes" type deal where she'll use her MPC 1000 sampler machine (that she has lovingly dubbed "Lola") and mix in bass, synths, whistles, kazoos and tapping on furniture -- any and everything is made musical. Oh, and she rocks pajamas all while doing it. Yeah, we need to be best friends already.

Her relaxed DIY approach to music making has made her debut self-titled EP a joy to indulge in. All seven tracks strut on their own, adopting the bold cheekiness of a one-woman Little Dragon. Peeling back the layers of Estère's EP, singles such as "Cruel Charlie" and "Culture Clash" stand out in all of their melodic sway, but the glitchy "I Spy" and the murkiness of "Patchwork Solider" aren't also to be bypassed. This Internet age has birthed many bedroom Mozarts, but we figure that Estère and her brand of Electric Blue Witch Hop will endure above others, as honest storytelling and music craftsmanship are the keys to longevity. To unlock the candor of Estère, hop on over to her Bandcamp spot and treat yourself to her EP at no cost but an e-mail address.
