Moods' 'Voodoo' Is Under D'Angelo's Spell

Moods Voodoo

With summer upon us (we follow the rule of Memorial Day kicking off the season), you may be looking for a way to chill during the hot summer nights. Dutch producer Moods has the solution and the soundtrack covered with the mid-tempo and mostly instrumental “Voodoo.” Inspired by Voodoo, the sophomore effort from oh-so-smooth soul crooner D’Angelo, the track will make you nod head just as much as it makes nods to some of the album’s lesser-known cuts (i.e., the songs that didn’t feature a naked D’Angelo in the video, wailing and staring that come-hither stare).

The funk of Voodoo’s“Playa Playa” and “Chicken Grease,” along with the Method Man and Redman-assisted “Left and Right,” are likely the best comparisons to make to Moods’ latest, as well as the best segues for any mixtapes. There’s even a nod to D’Angelo’s freshman effort, Brown Sugar, with the title track’s refrain integrated for good measure.

Moods captures the essence of Voodoo in a matter of four minutes, and gives us a solid complement to D'Angelo's catalog and the growing collection of remixes.
