Patience is not our strongest suit, especially when a great artist makes us play the waiting game. The diva of all R&B Divas, Faith Evans, has been teasing us since January with the announcement of her impending eighth studio album Incomparable, but today we finally got a new single. Not only do we get a glimpse of what could be an amazing comeback album, but we've also been rightfully compensated by a collaboration with Missy Elliott. Evans along with Elliott and her young artist Sharaya J band together to "make it hot for the summer" with the new single “I Deserve It.”
Over an uptempo track filled with lively horns and a contagious beat, Evans uses her signature vocals to prove her worth singing, “Just hold me down, you ain’t gotta be perfect, cause a girl like me is worth it.” Sharaya J, who could usher in a new generation of female MCs, drops a few bars and stays true to her quirky persona, which fits well under the Elliott brand. Missy playfully raps after her protégé about her beau, even referencing her disdain for minute-men. Afterwards all bets are off when Evans unleashes her range on us and closes out the song with Elliott repeating how the trio are going to make it hot.
While we wait, somewhat patiently this time, on Evans' upcoming album Incomparable, we’ll be bumping “I Deserve It” all summer. So tell us, was Evans new single worth the wait?
