MNEK's "Wrote A Song About You" had us running to the nearest dance floor with its infectious '90s R&B/dance sound. Now, just when we thought we couldn't sweat through our clothes and sweat out our perms enough while grooving to the track, the 19-year-old music upstart has gone and released a remix of the track by none other than our Canadian main man Kaytranada.
Premiered over at The FADER, the remix features some of the more recognizable Kaytra-isms, a heavy use of synths, a bouncy, elastic bass line and vocals that fade from speaker to speaker. However, there are some new flourishes added her as well. He leads the song with a quiet intro that builds slowly for the first minute or so, touching on more emotional thread of the song's lyrics. And then, unexpectedly, he incorporates a lush bed of strings here that further tug at the song's heartstrings. Somehow, the approach works quite well, crafting a dance floor burner that also has heart and soul.
