Hey, Jill Scott, hey!

Singer/poet and star of the new James Brown biopic Get On Up works it out and looks good while doing it as the September cover girl for ESSENCE Magazine. On the cover, Jilly from Philly is wearing the hell out of a form-fitting black dress and rocking a short, platinum blonde cut as she gives us one of her warm signature smiles. Hair police, don't fret, the new blonde 'do is a wig made for Jill by Andrea "The Dreamweaver" Burrough.

Besides her look, Jill gives us plenty to to talk about inside the issue's pages as well, as she shares a tiny bit about her life while still maintaining her privacy ("..for everybody that cares about me and is not trying to be all up in a celebrity's business, just know that I'm happy. My son is happy. We enjoy our lives," she says) and her music, as she's currently taking her time while working on her fifth studio album ("It's a slow brew," she told the magazine).
