SoundTable Discussion: Beyoncé & Nicki Minaj Together Aren’t So ‘Flawless’ After All

Mercy: So while both these dames have a knack for staying in the news, I thought the pairing was random and unnecessary, almost a downgrade for Beyoncé. Is it just me?

D-Money: I don’t think it’s a downgrade. I actually think this remix doesn’t get interesting until Nicki starts rapping. Beyoncé’s part is just her prattling on about bulls**t for a good two minutes with the bridge from the original mixed in.

Butta: I don't think it's as off-brand as Janet Jackson and Khia, for example, with Bey's new ratchet posturing. I’d have to agree with Donte. I’m more disappointed in Bey’s role in this remix than Nicki's actually. Onika was spitting some hot fiyah like Dylan and had some dope bars -- not all her bars -- just a few. Cause that Michael Jackson line? Nawl.

Mercy: The truth about King B is that she could gargle on a track and the Beyhive would pump it up as the best gargle of all time. So it doesn’t even matter. And re: Mike Jack -- too soon Onika, but actually, just shhhhh when it comes to MJ.

D-Money:
Yo, that MJ line was maaaaaadddd disrespectful. But I guess she needed to say something after that wack-ass “Hungarian” line that Bey dropped right before that. Really, Bey? Anywho, once Nicki got in her zone, she was killing. Still couldn’t save the song though.

Butta: “Flawless” was one of the songs that grew on me when the album dropped. It was just dripping all kinds of Swagu. But this remix? Trash. All the life that made the track so hot has skeeted out of it. But, of course, seemingly everyone with an internet connection is acting like it’s the greatest thing since McDonald’s Dollar Menu. Man, that Beyhive Creole Voodoo Kool-Aid is strong.

Mercy: “Flawless” is one of my fave tracks on the album but my reaction to the remix is that feeling you get when you pull up to McDonald’s and realize they’ve switched to the late night menu.

Butta: Yo! Worst. Feeling. Ever.
