As we cross the halfway mark for December, Applejac has shown and proved that he is determined to end this year with a bang. The Atlanta DJ has already blessed our ears with his soulful house spin on Avery*Sunshine’s “Call My Name.” Then he released HumantoHuman Vol 2 - DJ Applejac Mix, his contribution to the Ropeadope Records mixtape series. Now he’s teamed up with Jessica Newry to give us a little something to unwrap for the holidays, “What Do the Lonely Do at Christmas.”

While this isn’t the first time that the two have collaborated on some holiday goodness, they’ve slowed things down quite a bit for this go-round, opting to cover an oldie-but-goodie from The Emotions. The end result could easily be subtitled "The Cuffers Anthem," 'cause this just might be the song that sends you running into the arms of your temporary bae. Ms. Newry delivers a perfectly nuanced vocal, light and airy, yet silky smooth and dripping with honey. Applejac's instrumentals (with an assist from Demonterious "DETOXXX" Lawrence on bass) are infused with nostalgic sensibilities, conjuring Ghosts of Relationships Past. Settle in for the evening and get wrapped up in the warmth of this arrangement, which is currently available for free download on SoundCloud.
