With 10 years in the game under her built, it's pretty safe to say that Teedra Moses is the undisputed underground queen of R&B. Fans of the artist were hyped last summer when Teedra announced the arrival of a new album, The Empress Pride Collection, but nothing ultimately materialized. But in the wake of that false start, Teedra released her EP Cognac & Conversations earlier this year, and she's back at it again with yet another new EP, California Vibes.
On the five-song set, Teedra delivers on her signature brash style of raw R&B as she works with longstanding collaborators like Trackademicks, Thaddeus Dixon and a few other for the project. While fans will be glad to see 2013 single "Can't Be Luv" finally finding a home on this project, Teedra's got plenty of newness here to remind us why we love her. Opener "Incredible" is a surefire jam that finds Teedra riding out on atmospheric groove as she lets her lover know that what he does to her is simply unbelievable. The Trackademicks-produced title track is a smoked out, hazy track that captures the laid-back feel of chilling in the Golden State and soaking in the vibes. And if you were wondering if Teedra would bring it for the bedroom, look no further than slow burner "Something Real." But the EP's biggest standout is "Open Still," a frank, heartfelt ballad on which she shares vocal duties with J. Black and Rebekah Muhammad.
