You're probably exhausted, spent and can't even bring yourself to listen to anymore Christmas music. I know you, I feel you, but you might want to bend a bit and give into the stirring rendering that Mélat has put on the holiday classic, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" before you start putting in the earplugs. With a jazz piano accompaniment and a spacey synth backdrop, the Austinite chanteuse steps away from her usual fresh and futuristic R&B tunes to lay down some rich diva-sized vocals, proving why she's been one of our new favorites here at SBHQ.
As someone who wasn't feeling Sam Smith's version without the urge to grab a stiff drink and guzzle down depressants, Mélat's plush take is just the right amount of melancholy without it being too ominous, as her voice is clear and expressive, giving the track just the right touch of sweetness. She replicated the same aesthetic on another seasonal classic "I'll Be Home For Christmas" previously, and it all has me eager for a full Christmas album from her.
So if you want to slip into a Christmas tune of a less gaudy nature, then take a breather from all your holiday prepping and rushing, and allow Mélat to wish you the loveliest of happy holidays.
