Neneh Cherry Turns To Superstition In 'Spit Three Times'

Neneh Cherry has dropped the visuals for "Spit Three Times," the latest single from her recent release, Blank Project. While Blank Project may have been a long time coming, what it's not in keeping with are any superstitions regarding being relevant after stepping out of the spotlight. Cherry is as creatively free and fresh as ever on the Four Tet-produced release, and single "Spit Three Times" is no exception. On this moody and heavy number, Cherry is fighting demons and addictions, thought to what or whom isn't clear. Whatever they are, they're something that's hard to shake, much like the tone of this track.

In the Bafic-directed video, we see Cherry in the back of a car travelling on shadowy roads with a dark disposition. As the video progresses, we see Cherry through distorted eyes in various scenes, which seems to reflect the confusion going on inside her mind over this fever that is consuming her. Cherry looks defeated as the video goes on, which might be why she's resorting to old wives tales to try and break free of the spell that's on her. But one spell that doesn't look to be breaking soon thanks to "Spit Three Times" is the one Cherry has cast on lovers of avant-garde, outside-of-the-box music.
