Dawn Richard Lets Us In On Her Personal 'Choices'

Dawn Richard Choices Still

Dawn Richard might be best known for her days as part of Diddy-Dirty Money and the infamous break-ups and make-ups of Danity Kane, but she's proven time and time again that she's a formidable artist in her own right. Her most recent release, Blackheart, saw the singer step into darker stylistic waters than her previous effort, Goldenheart. It also saw her getting much more personal than before.

That theme persists in the newly released visual for Blackheart track "Choices: The Interlude." The singer sheds her clothes and appears in nothing but her hair extensions and false eyelashes for the clip as words and images are projected onto her body. The words nod to her personal struggles — with "Yes" and "I Love Me More" appearing on her body several times — and even reference the political unrest in the country when "I Can't Breath" appears in one scene. Ultimately, though, the most important phrase, one that appears several times over and is uttered by Dawn in the song, is "I Choose Me." It's a simple, yet powerful statement that surely many of us need to learn to say more often.
