Common and John Legend bask in Oscar 'Glory'

Hip-hop and soul came out victorious at the 87th Academy Awards when Common and John Legend won the Oscar for Best Original Song for their duet, "Glory," from the feature film Selma. Prior to being awarded the coveted statues, Common and Legend performed the song in the most powerful moment of the broadcast surrounded by a multi-racial group of over a hundred singers on a replica of the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was at once breathtaking and overwhelming. And once Com and Legend gave their winning speeches, there was nary a dry eye in the house. This was the third time that a hip-hop song has won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, but this was a victory on so many more levels. -- Butta
