Multi-GRAMMY nominee Sam Smith has dropped a video for In the Lonely Hour's "Lay Me Down," and the visuals are quite clever while causing a stir.

You see, when we last saw Smith in a video, he was groomed up and frolicking around New York City with his best men in the clip for "Like I Can." Well, Sam and his crew finally made it to the wedding — though that's not so clear at the beginning of "Lay Me Down." What looks at first to be a solemn memorial at a church for someone who has passed away evolves — courtesy of some seemingly single-lens camera work — into a joyous celebration of two becoming one. Yes, Sam enters into wedded bliss in the video, but the devout have raised eyebrows at Smith trading vows with another man.

The battle over who can love and marry continues to be a battlefield, but in this case, the smile-inducing scene prevails by lifting previously down spirits (really, who wants to attend a funeral?) and adding a notch to the win column for those working for marriage equality.
