It's hard to believe that ten years have gone by since Bobby V. dropped his platinum selling debut, Bobby Valentino. To celebrate a decade in the biz (as a solo artist, that is), Bobby is planning to take the summer by storm with a brand new EP and tour. In the meantime, he's hard at work and asking fans to "support the almost extinct art of R&B" by spreading the word about his latest video, "Unbelievable."
Produced by Emerson Brooks, the song (released last month) relies on a familiar storyline:
Boy meets girl.
Boy gets girl.
Boy loses girl.
Boy is lonely and full of regret.
Formulaic subject matter and lyrics aside, the song itself is one of his better offerings in recent memory. Putting a sample of R. Kelly's "Your Body's Calling" to good use, the singer uses his smooth vocals to try and win back the love he lost.
The visuals, directed by Michael Espino, follow Bobby as he reminisces on happier times (working out, watching movies, kitchen make-out sessions). As his ex lays around in her skivvies ignoring his calls, Bobby pours his heart out while playing the piano. In other words, there's nothing here that we haven't seen a thousand times before. I will give bonus points, however, for the beautiful scenic shots. The mountains, lakes and trees were a breath of fresh air to an otherwise stale video.
