What's the best way to kick off an event celebrating Black women and their amazing accomplishments? A Sheila E. performance, of course! The 57-year-old all-around musical badass rocked the house with an opening performance of her '80s classic "The Glamorous Life" that got everyone in the crowd moving.
Though she was flanked by a troupe of dancers, Sheila was obviously the star of the production. She sang while rocking out on her custom-made drum set as she went through all the moves of the now 30-year-old hit single. And the audience ate it all up, with the entire crowd getting on their feet and screaming the singer-percussionist's praises. And just when you thought it was over, she took the performance to the rafters with a kinetic drum solo that showed just how nice she really was before ending her set with a breathy, "Thank you! I love you! Good night!"
And that, my friends, is how you open a show.
