Already YouTube famous for her jazzy covers and inventive mash-ups, Andra Day is poised to make a big splash this year. The San Diego native previously cut her teeth in the studio back in 2013 with Ziggy Marley for the summer stunner "Coolin' in the Streets," and again later that year with her five-track holiday EP, Merry Christmas. Now, the classically-trained singer is ready to show the world the full breadth of her talent with her upcoming debut album, Cheers to the Fall. With a musical arrangement reminiscent of the The Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes For You," lead single "Forever Mine" is a perfect showcase of her dynamic voice.
Ms. Day describes her music as “...a blend of jazz, soul, doo-wop, plus a little bit of rock and a little bit of hip hop on the underbelly.” In lesser hands, this type of musical experimentation would yield chaotic results. But Andra definitely knows what she's doing, crafting a unique retro sound and delivering vocals full of brass, passion and charisma. Embracing a vintage style to match her music, there's no question that this talented songstress is committed to her artistry...and we can't wait to see and hear more. Check out the visual audio or the audio stream below and let us know if you're feeling Andra's latest as much as we are.
Day has also been dazzling audiences at high-profile events like SXSW, The Sundance Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. In fact, famed director Spike Lee was so impressed with her Sundance set at the What Happened, Miss Simone? concert, that he signed-up to direct the "Forever Mine" video. Stay tuned to our pages in the coming weeks for the video debut. In the meantime, be sure to visit Andra's website for exclusive news and updates. The rising star also has some major performances coming up this summer, including the BET Experience, the ESSENCE Festival and the Life Is Beautiful Music & Art Festival.
