Will You Be Checking For Lloyd's 'Girl From The South'?

With his last album, King of Hearts, having dropped in 2011, it's safe to say that it has been a while since we've heard new material from Lloyd Polite, or just Lloyd to the many fans who swoon at the mere mention of the singer. The curly-haired Louisiana boy returns to the music scene with new single "Girl From the South," and seems to be betting that the same ol' style he's been giving us since his Murder Inc. days is exactly what we want.

"Girl From the South," produced by ATL-based production crew Greystone Park, finds the sweet-voiced singer doing what he does best: singing slightly raunchy lyrics (example: "Shake it 'til you squirt squirt, honey") over romantic production with a bit of hip hop-influenced edge. This time around, though, Lloyd is looking for not just any shawty, but a girl with a bit of Southern charm. Over lilting guitar and trap-ready drum loops, the singer delivers a short list of exactly what he's looking for in a woman. Lloyd is putting in his bid for the around-the-way-girl, but is it a winning one? If you've been a fan of his from the beginning, sure. But if your interest in Mr. Polite has been just a passing one, then this track won't really do much for you, as it comes off just a bit generic, especially in the current male R&B climate.

Take a listen right here and see if you agree.
