When SWV released I Missed Us in 2012, it felt like a fluke. An anomaly. Some sort of cosmic rarity that only happens once every blue moon. Not only had the group reformed after 15 years to drop a new album, but people were actually interested and paid attention. Old and not-so-old fans flocked to iTunes and maybe even record stores to get a copy of this brand new album that flourished on word of mouth and sheer audacity. Who knew this event was just the start of a subsequent flood of original projects from artists who debuted just before the new millennium?
Now everyone from the unsung to the reclusive is dropping a new album. D'Angelo returned after his 15 year hiatus, as well as Jodeci, H-Town, Intro, Immature, Dr. Dre and many others. Not time, infighting, nasty lawsuits, flop albums, alcoholism, drug abuse or even dead group members has stopped these artists from making triumphant and not-so-triumphant returns.
However, we're still waiting on a few more artists to get their act together. In fact, we've made a list of them. Some are rumors. Some are just wishful thinking. Some are long gestating projects that are allegedly in the works. There is the chance that these artists could do more to hurt their enormous legacies than to extend them. But hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Take a look at this list of '90s Artists We're Still Waiting On To Drop A Comeback Album, and let us know who you think is overdue for a return.
