Chance the Rapper has been on a serious come up since 2013. He’s garnered even more critical acclaim since his collab mixtape, Free Based Freestyles Mixtape, with fellow rapper Lil B dropped this past July. His latest solo joint, “Family Matters,” is a reworked version of Kanye West’s “Family Business” from The College Dropout, and Chance decided to put together a music video for the song.

Chance decided to forgo a stylized video and instead gave his fans an inside and backstage look into his personal life, both with his family and with his band, The Social Experiment. The video starts off with young Chance (so adorable!) performing on stage followed by images of the grown rapper sound checking for an upcoming concert. The rest of the video is either documentary style footage of Chance on tour or home videos of Chance spending time with his family. The juxtaposition of these scenes underscores the message behind “Family Matters” as Chance warbles, “Family’s all that matters.” Both the message and the video are heartwarming and ultimately helps fans form a more personal connection with the rapper and both his blood relatives and his music family as well.

“Family Matters” shares a name with Chance’s Family Matters Tour that kicked off October 10th and has been widely successful so far, with over 10 sold out shows. The tour features D.R.A.M. and selected dates with Hiatus Kaiyote and will conclude on November 25th in Los Angeles. Check out the Family Matters Tour dates on Chance's website and cop tickets while you can.
