Over the years, Tony Momrelle has remained one of our favorite artists, not just because the man has can sing, but because of his chameleon-like quality to adapt that amazing voice of his to fit a variety of styles. He's given us expressive jazz, made us dance with abandon, served up romance with a side of funk and offered flawless covers of some classic songs. But at his core, he's an authentic soul singer, which is why we've been loving his latest project Keep Pushing.
Our first preview of the album came by way of lead single, "Pick Me Up." After giving us visuals for the single's B-side "Back Together Again" with Chantae Cann, he's circling back and bringing his words to life with a lyric video for the former. Cleverly animated by avant-garde artist Jeff Conway, the uplifting lyrics pull double-duty, simultaneously engaging our optic senses while giving us all the feels. As we see the song's themes play out on screen, it only serves to highlight the real stars, Momrelle's stellar vocals and the vivacious accompaniment. You can almost see his warm, dimple-enhanced smile as he croons, "When I wanna trip, I wear a smile / I keep my cool / Cos I've got you." Though Tony's vocals are filled with the joyous bounce of old-school soul, the track is given added buoyancy thanks to a bold and vibrant brass section.
Try to stop yourself from two-stepping long enough to focus on the lyrics so that you can sing along to this sunny tune. Afterwards, if you're looking to burn some extra calories or further escape the monotony of the work day, be sure to check out the deep house remix below.
