The Berklee alum first caught people's attention back in 2012 with her "Song a Day" videos on her YouTube channel. The daily offerings -- showcasing her writing, singing and piano playing abilities -- were conceived after she decided that she wasn't living the life she wanted (she was a retail associate at the time) and that she had "nothing left to lose" by putting everything on the line to follow her dream. Inspiration struck on December 31, 2011, and after investing in a Canon Rebel, she posted her first song on New Year's Day 2012 and vowed to herself that she'd upload an original tune each day for the year. Yes, you read that correctly. A new song. Every day. For a year. On day 302, she was signed to Roc Nation.

Sadly, all content from her YouTube channel has since been removed. But we were able to unearth a 2012 gem, "That Should Be Me," (via Hostal Malure's old SoundCloud page). And while Roc has yet to give Kirby the official debut that she clearly deserves, at least she hasn't been idle. In fact, she wrote the utter fierceness that is Brandy's "Beggin & Pleadin." And before that, she co-wrote the unexpected Rihanna/Kanye West/Paul McCartney collabo "FourFiveSeconds," Kanye's "Only One" (also featuring McCartney), and Beyoncé’s TIDAL exclusive, "Die With You." Not to mention other writing credits for Ariana Grande, Kat Dahlia, Monica and Jennifer Lopez. She even made her television debut earlier this year in a cameo role (as a singer, of course) on ABC's Agent Carter.

We can't wait to see what comes next for this incredibly talented young woman. In the meantime, she leaves us with the song below and asks: "I wrote a song for you..will you listen?"
