There’s a reason Gwen Bunn’s jazz-coated, ultra smooth vocals are gaining the attention of soul music fans. The artist/producer who hails from Decatur, GA is becoming a force to reckon with and one that is still keeping us waiting with baited breath for the release of her sophomore project Melody Dungeon. That’s why “Unofficial,” the newest release from Ms. Bunn, is so important.

“Unofficial” features minimal instrumentation, but it’s filled to capacity with her light and airy yet soulful R&B genius as Gwen Bunn gives us something new in just under two-and-a-half minutes. She reminds her love interest there’s a reason she wants to wait in the hook. Could this lyric imply a double entendre for those reading between the lines? Maybe she’s chosen to make us all wait on the brilliant work that’s to come.

If you know her work, you already know she’s the one who held down the production for ScHoolboy Q’s “Collard Greens” featuring Kendrick Lamar, but she hasn’t shied away from more efforts of her own since 2009’s The Verdict. We last heard from her when she teamed up with another producer Eric Lau for the funky “Without a Doubt” and also Jordan Rakei on “Street Light,” both of which we adored.

It’s still not clear when this new project will officially link all of her other joints together on her upcoming album Melody Dungeon, so for now we’ll just bask in the moment if perhaps all of this is indeed “Unofficial” and allow Gwen to string us along even further.
