On Sunday, June 29th, there was sunshine high in the Atlanta sky and onstage at the 2nd Annual ATL Soul Life Music Festival when it was Avery*Sunshine's time to perform. Another repeat performer who delighted last year's audience with her soulful, warm and funny set, she was back this year to deliver more of the same and she didn't disappoint.
Avery sat at the keyboards and set the tone with her signature song "I Got Sunshine" before tackling Aretha Franklin's "Daydreaming" with the greatest of ease. After covering that classic, she treated the audience to a first listen of her brand new track, "The Ice Cream Song." With her strong vocals and effervescent personality, she sold it and had everyone under the sound of her voice ready to buy it the minute it goes on sale. With it being Sunday and all, Avery made sure to take us to church on The SunRoom's gospel stunner "Safe In His Arms." She had concertgoers ready to pass around a collection plate!
There were numerous highlights during Avery*Sunshine's show, but one was definitely when she spoke lovingly about her husband and bandmate Dana Johnson and he walked up to give her some sugar. The newlyweds truly had the glow of love. Avery continued to delight the crowd with her big hit "Call My Name" and additional selections to wild applause that pretty much guaranteed that she'd be invited back to the ATL Soul Life Festival for a threepeat next year.
