R&B singer JR Castro is working overtime to get his bonafides as the next R&B loverman. The Las Vegas-native has teamed up with Los Angeles-based DJ Carisma to create a mixtape entitled Songs You Were Made To, which features covers of some of the best love making songs from back in the day. While the thought of your parents getting it on probably isn’t the first thing you want to think about when you’re trying to set the mood, what isn’t such a bad thing is JR’s take on the Bobby Brown classic “Rock Wit’cha.”

JR’s spin on song sticks pretty close to the original. The production by The Audibles is almost a point-for-point recreation of the original sound. Meanwhile, JR’s vocals are pretty solid, though he sounds more like Babyface than Bobby. Small quibble aside, it’s not a bad cover of the quiet storm staple.

“Rock Wit’cha” is the second release from JR’s #Made2Monday series, which promises to deliver a different “certified babymaking record” every Monday in July and August. This follows his cover of Ready for the World's "Love You Down," which he previously released. Castro avoids many of the pitfalls of remaking a classic song, such as paying too much homage to the classic and not making it his own or just not having the raw talent to attempt such feats. While there will also ways be dissenters, haters and people who just aren’t interested in anyone covering “their song,” JR Castro’s babymaking retrospective is a welcome trip down memory lane.
