Jidenna Shows How He Runs Things In 'Chief Don't Run'

Jidenna-Chief-Dont-Run-Still

Jidenna is gearing up for what looks to be a promising run for music dominance with his long-awaited debut album Long Live The Chief. In addition to his monster hit from last year "Classic Man" and the trio of singles ("Knickers," "Long Live The Chief" and "Extraordinaire") he dropped last fall, the dapper rapper has also given us two new singles to jam to with "Little Bit More" and "Chief Don't Run." Now that he's already laced us with an island-tinged video for the former, he delivers a brand new visual for "Chief Don't Run" that shows us his humble beginnings and the boss status that he's risen to.

We see the redhead kingpin holding court in an office that looks like it could exist either in the present day or in the roaring '20s as J and his crew party and bulls**t while he spits. As he rhymes, scenes of his childhood play out, showing a much different man than the sharp-dressed man we've come to know today. Soon, though, we get a glimpse into his life now, full of beautiful brown people dressed to the nines and celebrating life. But just as the party gets swinging, J steps outside to witness cops harassing a black suspect. We won't spoil the special twist that happens here, but let's just say that you'll see Jidenna as you've never seen him before.

There's still no official release date for Long Live The Chief, but with a steady stream of single and video releases, we imagine it could be any day now. While we wait for something official, check out the clip for "Chief Don't Run" below.
