The song is the first single from the Deepwater Horizon motion picture soundtrack. The film is set to hit theaters September 30th and tells the story of the tragic 2010 oil rig explosion that killed 11 crewmen and resulted in the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. Clark's contribution perfectly encapsulates the heaviness of the tragedy with lyrics like "Got a one-way ticket, I'm going home / Back where I started from." While his sound normally leans more towards a bluesy-rock blend, "Take Me Down" features Clark exploring a more folk-infused sound. The soul of the song lies within Clark's gritty voice, which, when combined with the backing vocals, injects the track with a gospel vibe.

The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 23rd. In the meantime, Clark will be wrapping up his current tour on October 7th. Fans can also catch him on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 6th.
