Hear this: Subway Silence, While I’ m Awake & Satellite Love.
Giovanca is one of the brightest stars of the pop, soul and acid jazz scenes of Holland and has managed to amass a loyal global audience spanning both Europe and Asia. I first discovered her via Instagram a few years ago. I was looking on Shirma Rouse’s timeline, and I kept seeing this striking young lady in photographs (she is also a model). So, I began following her and listening to some of her music.
After some years as a background vocalist, Giovanca released her acclaimed debut Subway Silence in 2008, followed by While I’ m Awake in 2010 and Satellite Love in 2013. She has won several Dutch music awards including the NPO Radio 6 Jazz and Soul Awards and the prestigious Silver Harp. Her voice has a refreshing brightness to it reminiscent of my favorite classic soul girl groups from the '70s like The Jones Girls or The Emotions. So it makes sense that she would go on to collaborate with legendary producer Leon Ware.
