Sabrina Starke is a singer-songwriter born in Paramaribo, Suriname and raised in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Her first album, the self-released Yellow Brick Road, was released in 2008. The album faired so well that it was eventually distributed by Blue Note/EMI and remained on the top album charts for an astonishing 52 weeks and went platinum. She has since released four other albums including Bags & Suitcases (2010), Outside The Box (2012), Lean on Me, the songs of Bill Withers (2013), and her latest offering Sabrina Starke (2015). She is the recipient of the heralded Edison Award and multiple Radio 6 awards.

Her personal mission to empower the youth through positive images and socially conscious messages seems to be at the heart of her musical artistry, and I have an immense respect and admiration for any artist who aims to use their platform to make our world a better place. She has also aligned her brand with causes and organizations who share her mission. Knowing this last bit of information about Starke made it clear why she decided to pay tribute to one of soul music’ s revolutionary pioneers, Nina Simone, with a remake of her classic “In The Morning.”
