Hear this: "Sweat"
An absolute showstopper is what comes to mind when I think of Pink Oculus. I saw her perform during a trip to Holland with my soulbro Darien Dean, and we were mesmerized by her stage presence and her sheer strength as a performer. Upon the release of her debut single “Sweat” she was thrust into the spotlight with performances and features on the major national radio and TV programs. Shortly thereafter the festival invitations came flooding in from all over Europe: Solar Weekend, Schippop, Right About Now, Vispop, Earlybird, Fusion, Greenman and the world-renowned Eurosonic Noorderslag to name a few. She has caused such a stir within the industry that top acts such as DJ LEFTO and TLP aka Troubleman have taken notice, and international superstar Stromae has even invited her to perform at one of his after shows.
I truly have a soft spot for MCs who also sing (Queen Latifah, Maimouna Youssef, Carolyn Malachi, et al), and Pink Oculus' voice is dooope! What I like about her music is what I dig about Kendrick Lamar: the production is extremely rich musically, with lots of textures, colors and styles. It’ s not just a dope beat with some words on top of it. It’s a truly creative masterpiece featuring amazing instrumentalists. I think the music buying public recognizes real music versus quickly manufactured imitation. Pink Oculus is the real deal. And you MUST catch her live show!
