Goapele & BJ The Chicago Kid Inspire Us To 'Stay'

Following the release of her stellar EP Dreamseeker back in May, Goapele is keeping the groove going by releasing a new visual to accompany the single "Stay." After serving sultry seductiveness in the video for "$ecret," she continues to keep it sexy in her latest offering as well. In the video for the lovesick duet with BJ The Chicago Kid, the Bay Area beauty slays in a crystal-encrusted bustier, a lacy shrug and ripped jeans. As she sings lyrics like, “So won't you just stay a little longer / Love a little stronger / Right here is where you belong with me,” she holds her own and conveys the yearning and sincerity of the track in which she and BJ pledge their all to each other.

Through a smoky filter, director Sean Alexander captures Goapele as she lies on the floor amongst broken glass, picks up pieces and gazes upon her image as she reflects on love. We also see her peering out of an open window, seemingly waiting for the lover whom she’s asked to “stay.” The video features subtle imagery that mimics the uncertainty and haziness that sometimes comes with romantic relationships once the sparkle has faded and the real work begins. “‘Stay’ is all about how to stay in a relationship past the newness and love stronger,” Goapele says. Though BJ The Chicago Kid is noticeably missing from the visual, she adds, “BJ was the perfect match for this 808 ballad. He has a classic, but effortless vocal performance.” These elements combined with this emotional, soulful track has us all in our feelings, but in a good way.

Check out the video for Goapele’s “Stay” featuring BJ The Chicago Kid, and you may feel inspired to hold on a little longer and fight for what you love a little harder.
