Musiq Soulchild Serves Up Some 'Humble Pie'

Musiq Soulchild's eighth solo studio album, Feel The Real, is almost here. And with two discs worth of material, it's safe to say that brother man has a lot to say. One of the things he's speaking on is relationships (which is obvious based on the set's previous singles "Start Over," "Simple Things" and "Sooner Or Later") and his latest single, "Humble Pie," is no different though it does approach it from a different angle.

As the title suggests, "Humble Pie" is about someone who has some apologizing to do. But for once, this isn't some "please baby please" mea culpa. Instead, in this post-Insecure world, it's the woman who has some explaining to do. Over a hip-hop-soul beat flecked with looped guitars, Musiq states his case as he lets his lady know that her mouth has him looking for the exit. "What you say / If ain't good keep it to yourself," he sings at one point. "'Cause all that arguin' / This can't be good for your health." He then offers up a solution on the chorus that seems simple but is easier said than done. "Nobody likes the taste of humble pie," he sings, "But it's only right if you're in the wrong / Get your slice." The song's concept is further expanded in the video for the track, which shows our boy dealing with a fiery tempered vixen who likes to push all his buttons. Musiq tries to get his point across as she flaunts her assets in barely-there numbers, but by video's end, it seems that his pleas for an apology are falling on deaf ears.

With the singles and videos Musiq Soulchild's released thus far, we're definitely getting a feel for Feel The Real. Stream "Humble Pie" via Spotify and check out the track's video below. Feel The Real is scheduled to drop on September 15th.
